Judicial Service Commission advertises five Kadhi posts in fresh judicial recruitment drive
The JSC is seeking to fill 145 other judicial vacancies. These include 15 positions for judges of the Court of Appeal, 20 for judges of the High Court, and 10 for judges of the Environment and Land Court. The Commission is also looking to recruit 60 Resident Magistrates and 40 adjudicators for the Small Claims Court.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has advertised five Kadhi posts in a fresh round of judicial appointments aimed at enhancing access to justice within the Kadhi courts.
In a notice, the Commission said the recruitment is part of its constitutional mandate to promote judicial independence, accountability and the effective delivery of justice.

The vacancies come as the Judiciary seeks to expand its capacity following months of stalled appointments due to budget cuts.
Kadhis’ Courts, established under Article 170 of the Constitution, handle matters related to Muslim Law. Their jurisdiction is strictly limited to the determination of questions involving personal status, marriage, divorce, or inheritance, but only in cases where all parties are Muslims and have submitted to the jurisdiction of the Kadhis’ Courts.
According to the JSC, there are currently 14 stand-alone Kadhis’ courts across the country, with the rest integrated into various Magistrates’ Courts.
In addition to the five Kadhi positions, the JSC is seeking to fill 145 other judicial vacancies. These include 15 positions for judges of the Court of Appeal, 20 for judges of the High Court, and 10 for judges of the Environment and Land Court. The Commission is also looking to recruit 60 Resident Magistrates and 40 adjudicators for the Small Claims Court.
“The Commission invites applications from qualified persons to fill the above positions,” read the notice, which directed interested candidates to the JSC jobs portal at https://jsc.go.ke/jobs-2/ for full details on job descriptions, requirements for appointment, and application procedures.
The Commission noted that all applications must be submitted on or before June 30, 2025, at 5 pm.
JSC clarified that only shortlisted and successful candidates will be contacted, warning that canvassing in any form will lead to automatic disqualification.

It also stressed that recruitment services are offered free of charge and that no payments should be made to any individual or agency claiming to act on its behalf.
The Commission noted that any inquiries should be directed to the JSC Secretary, through their contacts, email or commission offices located at CBK Pension Towers, 13th Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi.
The fresh appointments are now expected to address critical staffing gaps and restore momentum in the delivery of justice across various courts.
